Velocity Roads Group is proud to be working alongside Northumberland County Council as part of an innovative trial exploring new ways to preserve road condition and extend the life of the local highway network.
The trial, carried out on the A1068 between Amble and Warkworth Road, is evaluating a preventative surface preservation treatment that helps protect roads before significant deterioration occurs. Rather than waiting for defects and potholes to develop, the treatment is designed to lock in the existing condition of the carriageway, slowing the ageing process and helping local authorities maximise the value of their highway assets.
As councils across the UK continue to balance increasing maintenance demands with limited budgets, preventative maintenance is becoming an increasingly important part of long-term highway asset management strategies.
A smarter approach to road maintenance
Traditional maintenance often focuses on repairing roads once defects have already developed. Preservation treatments take a different approach by intervening earlier, helping to:
- Extend the operational life of existing road surfaces
- Reduce the likelihood of potholes and surface deterioration
- Lower future maintenance costs
- Minimise disruption for road users
- Support more sustainable highway maintenance practices
By protecting roads while they remain in good condition, local authorities can reduce the need for more extensive repairs later in the asset lifecycle.
Working collaboratively
Velocity Roads Group is pleased to support Northumberland County Council’s commitment to innovation and continuous improvement within its highways service.
Collaborative trials like this provide valuable opportunities to assess emerging technologies in real-world conditions and help shape future approaches to highway maintenance across the UK.
We look forward to seeing the results of the trial and continuing to work with local authorities to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions that improve network resilience.
