Velocity has appointed Alastair Smith to a new role within the company, Customer Relationship Manager.
Alastair brings over three-decades of highways experience to the company in both the private and local government sectors. Formerly UK Operations Manager at a national traffic management company, Alastair fostered a customer partnership ethos with strategic responsibility for coverage of operations throughout the UK. Prior to this, Alastair was Assistant Director Transportation, Engineering and Neighbourhoods at Hartlepool Borough Council for over ten years.
In his new role with the company, Alastair will be working with Velocity’s long-standing business development manager Gavin Blogg, working with new and existing term-maintenance and local authority customers throughout the UK on the provision of spray-injection patching and road preservation services.
Alastair said: “I understand the mindset of councils and the budget restraints they face having been ‘in their shoes’. I was so impressed with the precision and speed of Velocity Patching. It’s a product that will save customers substantial amounts of money, which has to be paramount in these times of austerity.
“Velocity is clearly a market leader and I’m excited to be part of the team and looking forward to meeting with customers to discuss the opportunities Velocity Patching can bring.”
Commenting on the appointment, Velocity’s managing director Dominic Gardner said: “With this appointment we decided to take a different strategic direction. Our customers want to deal with experts who truly understand their requirements and provide solutions.
“The relationships we have with our customers are so important to us, and Alastair is a perfect fit for Velocity and our customers. With outstanding experience in the highways industry he understands the challenges that our customers face, and has the operational and commercial expertise to deliver real added-value.
“We’re very excited to welcome him to the team.”
